The Tragedy of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” Custom Paper

Write a 4-5 page double-spaced typed essay in which you analyze the theme of the tragedies in Hamlet. Explore what that theme means to the work.
Emphasis is on your own thinking. Research is optional. If you do use secondary sources, document them according to APA or MLA style.

I will grade based primarily on the following criteria:

1. Knowledge of and insight into Shakespeare’s works
2. Coherence of the paper (tight organization)
3. Sufficient development of the support for your thesis
4. Good grammar and style

Writing Suggestions:

An essay implies a coherent structure, with a brief and concise introduction stating your main point, an argument that uses the text for evidence, and a conclusion. Quoting the play you are analyzing is permitted. We quote poetry in two ways: (1) if the passage is less than three lines, we put them right in our paragraph as we would our own words, but we have a slash between lines and quote marks around the whole passage; (2) if the passage is three or more lines, we separate them from the rest of the paragraph, indent them from the left margin, put one line per line of our text, and use no quote marks. I place a high premium on grammatical writing and coherent paragraphs.
