The Coming of Age Story Paper: effective writing about the Coming of Age Story hinges on a strong central idea (thesis), development of that idea throughout the paper, and supporting evidence Custom Paper

The Coming of Age Story Paper
Like most expository writing, effective writing about the Coming of Age Story hinges on a strong central idea (thesis), development of that idea throughout the paper, and supporting evidence. For our purposes, evidence means textual support that comes from inside the text or texts you are writing about.
A successful thesis will serve to illuminate for your reader something about the Coming of Age Story that the reader may not have seen or understood. The thesis is your insight, and what you want to persuade your reader to see in the story that enhances meaning and appreciation.

Writing About The Coming of Age Story
Interpret
•Look for meaning, and express your own ideas about a story. Summarizing or retelling the story is not the same as providing insight. Your ideas and originality matter. Just be sure you can defend your interpretation.
Defend your Interpretation
• Choose a central idea (your thesis)* and develop it. Persuade your reader to see the meaning in the story that you bring to it through your analysis.
•Support your interpretation with evidence (quotes) from the text, but don’t overuse quotes. Be selective, and make sure you anchor your quotes.
Focus
•Stay focussed on the one story (or stories, when you are comparing and contrasting) and your central idea about the story. Jump right in, and dive deep.
Paper Requirements:
•You must write a minimum of 6-8 full pages of text. Beyond 6-8 pages, you may write however much you feel you need to communicate your ideas effectively and succinctly using the scoring rubric as your guide. Your topic must connect to a coming of age theme referencing at least two film/texts we have read/viewed in class. You must integrate at least 6-8 quotes into your own writing (think one per page) and you may embed images, your own or any you wish to use to enhance your ideas. Quotes and images must be cited in-text and you must prepare a Works Cited page in a separate module.
•You must word process your paper and submit it in a document such as Word Docx or Pages using the following MLA standards: •Black ink on white paper
•Times New Roman, Times, or Cambria
•12-point font, double-spaced, one-inch margins.
•Works Cited Page

Synopsis

Things that adolescents experience can be difficult even if those may not be as difficult for adults. No matter what age and circumstances, individuals can be depressed, thinking that their lives are sad and miserable. In The Virgin Suicides and Harold and Maude, the main protagonists–the five Lisbon girls and Harold–try to put their lives to an end in their young age. While the five girls end up committing suicides, Harold changes his perspectives on life and decides to live his life to the fullest. The last four girls were locked in the house with no communication from the outside world. When the five boys who admired them started communicating with them through signals, it was a little too late. While these five girls were not rescued by someone from their misery, Harold was able to meet Maude and have a whole new experience that excited him. I will be talking about how even subtle environments and circumstances can change adolescent’s views on their lives.

Brainstorming

Why did the teens try to kill themselves? It can be:

because they haven’t experienced the outside world, even small things like getting bullied in school can be as effective. There are not so many things that are going on their lives. Their romantic relationships and a desire for freedom can be the biggest reason.

Harold wasn’t particularly looking for a romantic relationship at first–in fact, he was depressed because there was not anything exciting going on his life.

Harold and the five girls were all living under their strict parents.

The five girls–especially Lux–were interested in boys, but because their mom was so strict, they could not satisfy their needs.

However, in my opinion, this cannot really make a whole lot of sense as to why they committed suicides–so what can they be? It can be their circumstances.

The four girls commit suicides all together. This must have happened because of the mutual understanding and the sympathy towards each other. it may be easier for them to kill themselves because it is not only one person thinking about suicide–since it is an act of a group, the concept of committing a suicide must have sounded more appealing to them. The four girls belong to one another. If one of them is going to kill herself and put herself out of a misery, why not do it all together? Cecilia’s suicide was like the trigger to them.

Harold, on the other hand, tried to commit a suicide a multiple times because he saw no fun in living a life. Living under such strict mother who does whatever she wants and does not listen to his son, Harold found the concept of being dead rather soothing. I do not think he was doing this for attention like Berie was stealing money for. Instead, he did it to rebel towards her. Besides, he just didn’t have any purpose in living.

However, Maude appeared in his life and changed his perspective on it completely.
