Contrasting the tone, style of The Fifth Child and Margaret in A High Wind in Jamaica Custom Paper

These two novels have very different narrators. In The Fifth Child, the third-person narrator
sometimes provides an omniscient perspective, informing the reader of facts and events from a
perspective beyond that of any particular character, and sometimes the narrator confines his or her
perspective to that of the thoughts of Ben’s mother Harriet. The narrator of A High Wind in
Jamaica is a much more complex agent who is sometimes omniscient, sometimes confined to the
consciousness of individual characters (often this is Emily), and sometimes not omniscient,
confessing his ignorance of the facts and making jokes about the story he is telling. Write an essay
in which you contrast the tone, style, and content of both these narrators. Do not simply describe
them; go on to discuss how these two narrative styles influence the reader’s response to both
novels.
(Write an essay in which you contrast the tone, style, and content of both these narrators.)
write of essay of no less 750 words and no more than 1000 words in which you analyze and
interpret the texts in light of the subject you have chosen. Remember to construct a thesis
statement that clearly announces your topic to the reader, to place the thesis statement in your
introduction and to underline your thesis statement, to include a minimum of five verbatim
quotations, to make sure that your entire discussion refers back to your thesis, and to refrain from
summarizing the plot. Assume your reader is familiar with the novels and does not need extended
contextualizing of events or detailed descriptions of characters or settings. In oher words, assume
your reader is exactly who she is: me. In addition, INCLUDE THE WORD COUNT AT THE END OF
THE ESSAY. This is a requirement of the assignment. Remember that your essay must include a
title that reflects the content of your paper, and while your title may include the titles of the
novels you are discussing (example: Relationships in The Fifth Child and A High Wind in Jamaica), it
cannot simply be the titles of the books (example: The Fifth Child and A High Wind in Jamaica).
Another requirement of the assignment is that you include a Works Cited page at the end of the
assignment; please see "MLA Rules" for instructions about how to set up this page.
