ETHNICITY, RACE, AND NATIONALISM Custom Paper

Find three articles from online newspapers or magazines on the same ethnic/racial conflict or debate. Be sure to copy the URLs of the articles as you will need to share them in the introduction of your essay. This part of the assignment will require some research and careful thought. Be sure that each article gives sufficient detail so that you have a clear understanding of the issue you have chosen to investigate. If you select articles that are only a few paragraphs long, you will not be able to adequately complete this assignment. Articles that reveal different perspectives on the same issue may also prove fruitful. You may wish to pursue a subject introduced in your readings. Other potential topics include, but are not limited to, race relations in the United States, the Northern Ireland conflict, the restructuring of the former Soviet Union, Holocaust survivors, representations of the Middle-East in the American press, and experiences and effects of immigration.

Your first paragraph must introduce your subject and provide a clear thesis statement and argument for your paper, so you may want to give extra thought to this part of the writing. The rest of your paper should include an analysis of the topic. This means that your essay should provide more than a superficial discussion. Therefore, you also might wish to think about the assumptions that the articles make about ethnic or racial identity, the ways that the articles support an idea or theory from your readings, or how the articles have helped you learn more about race or ethnicity. Be sure to be culturally sensitive to whatever subject you have selected. Try to think past your own assumptions. This assignment gives you an opportunity to be the anthropologist and leave behind any preconceived, ethnocentric notions or judgements.
